No more of that small stuffy apartment. And I had timed the purchase just right. My sister was moving into a new home that she had just finished building. Most of her items would be moved into the new house. But, there was that electric stove. Ah, the stove. It surely looked like it had seen its last day. I don't think it had ever been cleaned. The stove was not that old and had many good years left. My budget was stretched to the limit and I needed appliances. I finally agreed to take it home for a small fee and free delivery. So there it sat in my kitchen for a couple of days. I knew I needed the weekend for this tough job. I'd cleaned oil storage tanks in a past job, so was ready for this. Armed with a can of goof-off and some oven cleaner I got to work. By the end of the day I had to air out the kitchen from all the fumes. I now could tell that the stove was white in color. Time to go to sleep and then back to cleaning the stove in the morning. By Sunday afternoon I was almost finished. Just a quick trip to the hardware store for some new burner liners and some white touchup paint before calling the job complete. Voilà! The stove looks brand new and sits perfectly in its final resting spot. I knew my cleanup efforts were a success when my sister stopped in for a visit two months later and did not believe me when I told her that that was her old stove sitting in my kitchen.
