Sometimes when you are involved in a car accident, it can be difficult to know whose fault it is. It may be that you hit someone and then someone else hit you or that you cannot remember what happened or are just not sure. It can all be rather complicated, especially if more than two vehicles are involved.
However, if you are able to take photographs at the scene or even just write down anything you can remember and details of the damage plus the registration plates of the vehicles involved, then this could help the police determine what happened. It can also be useful evidence for a solicitor if you try to claim compensation for any injuries you sustained.
It is perfectly possible that if you hit someone they could claim on your car insurance and maybe for compensation if they get injured. If someone then hits your car, you could then do the same to them. These would be treated as separate cases and if you hand it all over to a solicitor then they will be able to deal with it and sort out all the fine details.
If you are not sure whether you are going to be entitled to any compensation then it could be worth seeing a solicitor anyway. They are unlikely to charge you a fee for an initial consultation and they will be able to tell you whether they think you have any chance of getting compensation. It may depend on the nature of the accident, your injuries and the solicitor. If one says they don't want to take on the case, then it could be consulting others as they may have a different opinion on things.
You have nothing to lose by discussing things with a few solicitors and a lot to gain if you do go ahead with a case and win some compensation.
