The Stove that Continued to Live on

posted on 3 January 2012

It was my first house. I was so excited. I had made the purchase all by myself. I was very proud. No more of that small stuffy apartment. And I had timed the purchase just right. My sister was moving into a new home that she had just finished building. Most of her items would be moved into the new house. But, there was that electric stove. Ah, the stove. It surely looked like it had seen its last day. I don't think it had ever been cleaned. The stove was not that old and had many good years left. My budget was stretched to the limit and I needed appliances. I finally agreed to take it home for a small fee and free delivery. So there it sat in my kitchen for a couple of days. I knew I needed the weekend for this tough job. I'd cleaned oil storage tanks in a past job, so was ready for this. Armed with a can of goof-off and some oven cleaner I got to work. By the end of the day I had to air out the kitchen from all the fumes. I now could tell that the stove was white in color. Time to go to sleep and then back to cleaning the stove in the morning. By Sunday afternoon I was almost finished. Just a quick trip to the hardware store for some new burner liners and some white touchup paint before calling the job complete. Voilà! The stove looks brand new and sits perfectly in its final resting spot. I knew my cleanup efforts were a success when my sister stopped in for a visit two months later and did not believe me when I told her that that was her old stove sitting in my kitchen.

How to Correctly Use a Tourniquet

posted on 10 December 2011

A tourniquet is a very important medical device used mostly during surgery to prevent excessive bleeding. There are many other places not only in hospitals where this medical device can be used to prevent excessive bleeding from a wound. Although it is quickly becoming a regular first aid device especially during accidents, most people don’t have the basics of using tourniquet correctly. Just like any other medical device, incorrect usage may lead to other health complications. These effects can greatly impact on the health of the patient. If used correctly, a tourniquet eventually increases the size of a vein significantly. Of course this is good for making it hit and reduce the risks of missed hits i.e. hits that lead to abscess. However, this is only possible if the tourniquet is used in the correct way. When used incorrectly, this medical device can greatly increase the risk of severe damage to the vein. This way, it can lead to total inability to get the vein or put the patient’s arm at risk. For this reason, every injector should know how to use a tourniquet correctly. To facilitate injection, the idea of using a tourniquet is to increase blood flow to the arm while at the same time stopping it from leaving. This actually allows the injector to look and spot the vein for injection. When using a tourniquet this way, the doctor should ensure that he exert the right amount of pressure. The idea is to increase blood pressure by letting it flow in while stopping it from getting out. Excessive pressure is not needed for this purpose.

My Boyfriend’s Serious Search for Prefabricated Steel Buildings

posted on 9 July 2011

I have been waiting for about an hour now here in my favorite coffee shop and my boyfriend has yet to arrive. It is very unusual for him to be this late without even sending a message or calling me but I have yet to reach his cell phone. Last I heard from him is that he will be driving around the city trying to look for prefabricated steel buildings that their company could use as a warehouse. This is the first time that I have seen him quite serious about a project and although I know that he have always wanted to be promoted, I was not aware that he is wishing for it to happen the soonest possible time. Much as I want to be an understanding girlfriend, I don’t think I will be able to contain my anger much longer so I better leave before he arrives and I say some things that I may later on regret.

Up on the Roof in the Early Mornings

posted on 8 July 2011

I love to be up on the roof in those early summer mornings. I might start work as early as 5AM - the sun's up, and the temperature's cool - it's the best time to work in the summer! Also, it's quiet! I hear just the birds chattering. There's something very special about being up there at that time. Working for a uk roofing contractors, I always have a project to work on, and if at all possible, I will choose my own working hours, which are heavily biased toward those early hours in the lighter months. By the time you get to mid morning, the temperature's getting too hot for me. It's all very well in spring or autumn, but summer's a tough season to be out on the roof. A lot of roofers are like me an work earlier hours as they're more productive then - and productivity is everything!

Bright Colors, Open Kitchen and Accessories Will Create a New Look for My House

posted on 6 March 2011

I love recreating and reinventing new things in my house. Money is an integral part of life if one wants t lead a flamboyant lifestyle. The first and foremost thing that I want to do in my house is build an open plan kitchen that adds to the fluidity of the design. My friend who works in the building trade has all the tools (from masonry saws to bench saws) and the workers to do the job for me - and I have the money to pay them! The kitchen should also open out to an open terrace where I can have a small kitchen garden. I would love to change the bedroom of my teenage daughter. She loves shopping and has lots of perfumes, jewelry and designer clothes. So I would make an exclusive wardrobe in her room where she can easily stack her belongings. The attached bathroom in her room is big as the bedroom. I would love to have a glass ceiling and equip the bathroom with a Jacuzzi and shower area. I think my daughter would love the new look of her bedroom and bathroom.
